Last holidays, we shared the Bondi Beach school grounds with the Gyuto Tibetan Monks. They were running meditation classes, chanting seminars and all sorts of lessons from their faith, Buddhism. Each day they ran a childrens hour and on one of our days at the centre we popped in to say hello.
We made Happy Flags with the monks and they wrote our names on them in Tibetan... the thought behind this activity being that 'I am happy, because I give happiness'. We also watched them creating their 'Mandala' which is the most amazing picture made from sprinkling coloured sand onto a large outline. Beautifully intricate and detailed, it takes a whole seven days to complete. At the end of the week it is swept away to teach a lesson that nothing is permanent and to show the journey and process of a task is often more important than the result.
We thought that these were beautiful lessons to learn
