Are you getting outside and getting active every day?
With just a few more days of the healthy living campaign to go, don't stop now.
Get outside and get active for good balance, strong muscles and bones and maintain healthy weight
Stop sitting and get moving - growing children should be active and moving for 3 hours across the day
- Ditch the screens and go outside
- Look for opportunities for play together as a family
- Plan active occasions, walk or roll in your nearest park
- Ask the children what they want to do, and do it
- Provide plenty of inspiration, bats and balls, baskets or goals
- Dress for it – safe shoes, helmets and guards if necessary
- Mix it up, variety is the spice of life
- Make sure there are plenty of water breaks
Moving bodies need regular refuelling, so stock up on fruit, veges and healthy snacks to keep your little ones moving
Offer a range of fruit and vegetables to try, cut it up for easy eating
Experiment with serving styles raw, sliced, mashed, baked, grated
Don't forget to experiment with canned or dried options
Add fruit to cereal, blitz it in a smoothie, create frozen fruit pops
Sneak veges into casseroles or create easy to drink, warming soups.
Add Salad to sandwiches and wraps, make dips to smear on crackers
Be a good example… serve and eat plenty of the good things yourself
Did you know? It can take 15 attempts before a child will try a new food. Don’t give up!
