This week we are all about FOOD AWARENESS! Linking to our sustainability focus, Primary OSHCare centres are celebrating Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Day.
Join us, discuss the topic with your children and spend some time thinking about nutrition, the food chain, what ends up on our tables and in our tummies. Did you know? Research shows +20% of Australian children think Pasta is a vegetable. EEEeek
Every day, children in all Primary OSHCare centres eat nutritious meals that they've organised, prepared and served. Cooking clubs, restaurant & cafe clubs allow the children to explore, taste and learn. Most Primary OSHCare centres use kitchen gardens and micro plots to plant and grow the veges they harvest and eat. Trips to the local grocer help us to learn about foods in season.
Food awareness is also about being mindful of those around us, so hygiene and food sense is part of the learning. Food allergies and emergencies are also a part of this work.
"With diet-related illnesses rising at an alarming rate, it has never been more important to educate people about food and how to cook it" says Jamie.
This week, get your thinking cap on and challenge yourself to eat well and sustainably. Visit these links for more information about Food Revolution Day and Food Awareness week too.
